At NACKA - our players make our league, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. No matter how you pack it in your pipe and smoke it...our players make our league dang awesome. To celebrate those who participate in our kickball kingdom, we are going to periodically profile a willing player to highlight on our website. We want to give our visitors what they want...and what they want is the chance to get to know our players on an intimate level that is touching on scary and crossing over to disturbing. FYI: By "highlight" we mean victimize...and by "willing" we mean kidnap and roofie.
Players Name: Dan McCoy
Team Name: Uncle George's Moe & Go
Fielding Position: First Base
Age: 27
Years Playing with NACKA: 3 years
Occupation: Paychex
NACKA Description in One Word: Turf Fields (Dan clearly doesn't know what "one word" means)
Self Description in One Word: Obnoxious (this description was actually yelled out by a team mate and we decided to go with it. Dan's official description of himself was "extremely outgoing" - again, with the two word cheating)
Q: If you were dying tomorrow & for your last meal you could pick a sandwich, made anyway, what would you pack between your buns?
A: "A sandwich? At McGreggors, they've got a build your own. It's like 30 different options. You pick your bread, your meat, your cheese, your toppings and the whole deal. It takes up half the menu. Go there."
**Note: We appreciated Dan schooling us on how to read a menu & order a sandwich in a restaurant - most of us have no idea how to tackle this daunting task. 2nd side note: Dan in no way answered this question.
Q: What's your favorite bar in Rochester?
A: "Favorite bar in Rochester? It used to be Wallstreet when Ben was there. But really it's just who's ever up for giving me free alcohol."
(Maybe the free alcohol is why Ben doesn't work at Wallstreet anymore??)
Q: Who do you root for in the cartoon world...Tom or Jerry?
A: "Like in the mouse and the cat? I guess, I guess, I guess, I guess I'm gonna go Jerry???"
(We we're busy trying to guess when Dan was going to stop sta, sta, sta, stuttering. Jesus it's either Tom or Jerry - freaking pick one.)
Q: If you could have one superpower, what would you choose and why?
A: "Batman cause he's the shit!"
Q: Let's try this again, if you could have one SUPERPOWER, what would it be and why?
A: "Batman!!"
**Note: After having not one or two, but 4 people try to explain the difference between a superpower and a super hero to Dan, he settled on invisibility. Ironically invisibility would have been the perfect power to use at that time.
Q: Can you say "Peter Piper Picked a Pack of Pickled Peppers" 3 times fast?
A: "I don't know about 3 but...peter pepper pikes...nope."
Q: It's karaoke time...you have one song to sing to blow the audience away? What are you telling the DJ to turn out?
A: "Hometown Hero Jukebox Hero!"
**Note: If Dan's singing abilities are anywhere close to his interviewing abilities...we recommend dropping acid and wearing earplugs.
Q: If you could have dinner with one person, other than Dave Hofstetter of course, who would it be with and why?
A: "Aaron effing Rodgers!"
Q: If you were Michael J. Fox and had access to a DeLorean time machine, what year would travel to?
A: "80's! 80's! 80's!"
**Note: After having not one or two, but three people explain the difference between a year and a decade, Dan chose 1985. In 1985 the movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" was released...coincidence? We think not.
Q: What beer do you choose at the kickball concession stand?
A: "If I'm buying...Bud Light."
(What about if former employee Ben at Wallstreet is buying?)
Q: Boxers or briefs?
A: "Boxers. What does that have to do with kickball and why does Dave Hofstetter want to know what kind of underwear I'm wearing?"
(Oh Dan, if only you knew why.)

Right about now, adult kickballers all over the country are stretching out their hammies in anticipation of the fast-approaching spring season. Since the big Y2K disappointment, social kickball playing (for people over the age of 6) has taken the nation by storm. With binge drinking leagues popping up in nearly every city across the U.S., you'd be hard-pressed to find someone (yet again, over the age of 6) who doesn't know the in's & out's of kickball. You kick a rubber ball and you run your ass off. Pretty simple right? Yes, but did you also know some of these interesting facts about the wonderful world of kickball???
- Kickball is a U.S. born sport, invented in 1917 by Nicholas Seuss, the supervisor of Cincinnati Park Playgrounds in Cincinnati, OH. And you thought "Cleveland Rocks"...it was Cincinnati the whole time.
- Kickball was originally called "Kick Baseball" and "Soccer Baseball". What genius names did you expect from an era that wrapped up school in the 6th grade?
- In the early 20's, kickball was used by P.E. teachers in school to teach children the basics of baseball. Which led to zero confusion when t-ball started. "A bat? Naw...I'll just use my foot."
- In early kickball days, multiple players could be on the same base at the same time, there were no outs, no pitcher, no real "positions", and they used either a soccer or volleyball. This actually sounds like how most NACKA games are played when the beer truck offers 2 for 1 specials.
- The earliest account of adults playing kickball was in 1922 at a teachers conference in Clinton County, NY. Yes Clinton County NY does exist. We looked it up on google maps too!
- By 1930, kickball adopted the same rules as baseball. 3 strikes, 3 outs, 4 balls, and pitching and fielding positions were all added. So now we really have no idea what game is being played at Sahlen Stadium on Thursday nights??
- During WWII, the Army played kickball during their down time. Imagine if they played it during fighting time. That really would have thrown the Germans for a loop.
- In the Army during WWII, all kicks had to be home runs by beating the ball back to home. We're not sure how many NACKA players would've made it past bootcamp.
- In South Korea, kickball is known as balyagu and is a staple in gym class. We just assumed that doing math equations was a gym class staple...our bad. (We kid, we kid!)
- Kickball is known as kickbase in Japan. If they're kicking the bases instead of a ball...someone should probably cut off their saki supply.
- In Latin America, kickball is almost exclusively played by women. FYI: NACKA is an equal opportunity kicking & drinking league.
- Thriving kickball leagues for women exist in Venezula and Columbia. Can anyone smell a challenge here??
- The World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA) was founded in 1998 by 4 guys drinking in a bar looking for ways to meet women and get laid. Yeah, that pretty much sums up kickball in a nutshell.
Kickball is coming soon ballers!! Start stretching now!

Do you know who can really take all of the greatness out of Thanksgiving? Nutritionists, doctors, and healthy-living "experts", that's who. Thanksgiving is a day where fun is solely measured by how tight your pants are when it ends. Unfortunately, freaky food people are trying to intimidate holiday observing Americans into eating healthier, by making them well aware of how many calories they will consume in a span of 24 hours. And to that we say...back off bitches, it's one day...let us all pop the buttons off our shirts and shower with gravy in PEACE.According to the jerk face health nuts out there, the average American inhales between 3,000 and 4,500 calories during this one day of thanks. We honestly, don't see any problem here. Buuuuuuut the media is blasting us with advice, tips, and other annoying information on how to avoid overeating this Thanksgiving. As it turns out, we have a little advice of our own to give on this topic...What "Experts" Suggest: Put unhealthy side dishes such as; mashed potato's, stuffing, candied yams, etc, on a side table away from the main eating area.Reasoning: People get comfortable and they tend to eat only what is placed in front of them. What We Suggest: Sit at the side table.
What "Experts" Suggest: Choose white meat over dark meat.Reasoning: White meat is higher in protein and lower in fat content and calories. What We Suggest: Eat both. Nobody likes a racist at the Thanksgiving table.
What "Experts" Suggest: Do not skip meals on Thanksgiving Day.Reasoning: Eating breakfast and lunch will help you to avoid binge eating at dinner. What We Suggest: We agree. Eat all day long.
What "Experts" Suggest: Socialize with your family.Reasoning: You can't talk with your mouth full. What We Suggest: Chow down and speak up. Your dad has been telling the same story about you failing Earth Science in the 9th grade with food flying out of his mouth for 15 years.
What "Experts" Suggest: Eat a low-fat vegetable soup as a starter.Reasoning: Soups rich in vegetables fill you up with nutrients, making you feel full and satisfied. What We Suggest: Throw the soup on the floor and say "what is this shit? The Pilgrims didn't eat soup!"
What "Experts" Suggest: Workout before your meal.Reasoning: A high intensity workout will help to burn up excess calories. What We Suggest: Skip the gym. You'll burn enough calories fist fighting for 10 rounds with your family.
What "Experts" Suggest: Drink plenty of water.Reasoning: Water will keep you hydrated and help to make you feel full throughout the day. What We Suggest: Beer has water in it. Drink up.
Happy Thanksgiving kickballers!
